Sweden's OPETH are on the verge of inking a new record deal with Roadrunner Records, informed sources have told BLABBERMOUTH.NET. The band, who were previously signed to the now-defunct British label Music For Nations Records, recently entered Fascination Street studios in Örebro, Sweden to begin recording their eight album, tentatively due later in the year.
OPETH will take part in the inaugural Sounds of the Underground tour, which is slated to kick off June 25 in Lowell, Massachusetts. Other bands scheduled to take part in the trek include CLUTCH, LAMB OF GOD, GWAR, POISON THE WELL, FROM AUTUMN TO ASHES, UNEARTH, EVERY TIME I DIE, CHIMAIRA, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, MADBALL and DEVILDRIVER.
Is anyone else scared shitless about this? Seriously, I don't want to be all "OMGZ THEY'RE SELLING OUT!111!", I won't really care who they're signed with as long as they continue to make good music. The thing is, Roadrunner seems to do things to bands...look what happened to Nightwish. Their new album wasn't really BAD by any means, the soul just seemed to be gone. I have faith in Akerfeldt though, he loves Opeth too much to let it spiral into mediocrity. Or at least I hope he does..
Or it's quite possible that I'm just overreacting. =P Who knows what'll happen...I just hope they stay metal.
